By participating in this eXperience you will be able to proactively create a plan before retirement and uncover your "second career" Retirement can be a time of great change, and it can be easy to let your health and fitness slip. However, staying active is essential for maintaining good health and preventing age-related diseases. Finding a second career that you are passionate about can help you to stay active and engaged. You may lose the sense of purpose that you had from your job. However, finding a second career that you are passionate about can give you a new sense of purpose. This can help you to feel fulfilled and satisfied in your retirement years. Retirement can also be a time of social isolation. However, finding a second career that involves working with others can help you to stay connected with people. This can help to reduce loneliness and improve your mental health including dementia. The science behind being physically and mentally active in something that is rewarding after retiring: Neuroplasticity. Our brains are constantly changing and adapting, a process known as neuroplasticity. When we learn new things or engage in new activities, we create new neural pathways in our brains. This can help to improve our cognitive function and reduce our risk of dementia. Endorphins. When we engage in activities that we enjoy, our brains release endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. This can help to reduce stress and anxiety and improve our overall sense of well-being. Sense of purpose. Having a sense of purpose can give our lives meaning and direction. This can help to reduce feelings of emptiness and isolation and improve our overall mental and physical health.
